Please introduce yourself. What are you passionate about?
Abena Boatemaa Asare-Ansah is my name. I hold a bachelor's degree in Geomatic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. My passion as a young lady is to apply the knowledge acquired in my field of study to solve issues pertaining to the management of natural resources in my country of Ghana and in the world at large.

What initially attracted you to this field of work?
My desire to explore all the fields of remote sensing and GIS and the ability to use these tools to solve challenging problems facing my nation initially attracted me to this field of work.

What SERVIR activity are you currently working on?
Charcoal Production Site Monitoring - Preparation of a Tree Cover Map for the West Gonja and Sene East Districts, which will inform users of the estimated number of trees within a particular area of interest.

How does your work generate positive change?
A tree cover map is a product that displays tree density within the area of interest. Areas without forest cover maps or high resolution images can adapt the use of tree cover maps as an alternative.

Since the SERVIR project here at CERSGIS is aimed at Monitoring Charcoal Production Sites, this product aims at identifying charcoal production sites in the absence of high-resolution images. This will then be overlaid on the charcoal site coordinates so that visual interpretation can be appreciated.
