SERVIR Celebrates Earth Day 2023

The 53rd annual Earth Day was on April 22, 2023. To mark the occasion, SERVIR colleagues across the globe shared their reflections on caring for the Earth, climate change and other environmental issues. In case you missed the social media campaign, you can view the full slideshow here.

SERVIR in the news for Earth Day

SERVIR’s work on air quality in the Hindu Kush Himalaya was featured in a blog post by NASA Marshall Space Center, 5 Ways Open Science is Transforming NASA Research and Protecting Our Planet.

NASA’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Katherine Calvin, mentioned SERVIR in her UN News Earth Day interview on how viewing the Earth from outer space has driven generations to advance climate action, First Person: Saving the Earth from space.

USAID Administrator Samantha Power tweeted out a blog from Feed the Future entitled, Satellite Data Bolsters Food Security and Climate Resilience in South Asia that profiles SERVIR’s work using satellite information to track weather events critical to food and water security.

NASA Capacity Building Program Manager Nancy Searby and SERVIR Science Coordination Office colleagues Emil Cherrington and Africa Flores participated in NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s live television and radio news spots for Earth Day.

NASA also had a booth at the Earth Day festival at the Huntsville Orion Amphitheater over the weekend. SERVIR colleagues Dan Irwin and Tim Mayer made local news coverage of the event:
