Name: Emily Adams
Affiliation: NASA/SERVIR SCO
Role/Title: Eastern and Southern Africa Science Coordination Lead
Year you joined SERVIR: 2016

Please introduce yourself. What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about leaving the world a better place than when I found it. Growing up, that was an important motto we learned in the Girl Scouts. However, this motto has really resonated with me throughout my career as I studied to learn how to understand and protect the environment. Remote sensing has the unique capability to see the world from a new perspective, and helps us understand our home planet in a new way.

What initially attracted you to this field of work?
I was originally drawn to studying science because I wanted to learn about how the world works, however, applied science really excited me. There is often a gap between the scientists and the decision makers. Being able to help provide data, tools, and technology to bridge that gap is inspiring.

What SERVIR activity are you currently working on?
The SERVIR activity that I am currently most involved with is supporting the Frost Monitoring and Forecasting Service. We are working to use high spatial resolution numerical weather prediction model outputs to predict frost occurrences for small scale tea farmers in Kenya.

How does your work generate positive change?
At SERVIR, we collaborate with decision makers to help them understand how science can better inform their decisions, allowing for a greater positive impact in their communities.
