Increased Capacity and Public Access to the Ministry of Environment Geospatial Data Portal

Period of Performance

October 2019 - September 2021

The Increased Capacity and Public Access to the Ministry of Environment (MOE) Geospatial Data Portal service supported the Cambodia MOE’s sustainable landscape initiatives by increasing public access to its Environmental Data Portal. The service provided technical support to the MOE’s Department of Geospatial Information Service (DGIS) to operationalize a forest alert system built by SERVIR Mekong by integrating it into an existing MOE portal. It improved the institutional capacity of DGIS to manage its geospatial data portal effectively, allowing staff to analyze the data and make this information available to the public. The service also helped DGIS populate the MOE Environmental Data Portal with additional satellite-based data such as land and forest cover, rainfall, drought indices, vegetation indices, and flood extent.

Rationale

SERVIR-Mekong co-developed a forest alert system with the MOE and capacity building initiatives for the MOE DGIS to ensure that staff are fully trained to benefit from and sustain the forest alert system. By equipping DGIS staff with technical capacity, SERVIR-Mekong ensured that the MOE can not only manage its current geospatial data portal but can also implement future geospatial programs for the government.
