Since 2018, SERVIR has conducted 12 training programs for young and early-career women in geospatial information technology (GIT), reaching 1,490 women across the region. The training focuses on using technologies to collect, store, analyze, and visualize spatial or geographic data about observing the Earth’s surface and human activity. Participants learn about key concepts and how to use applications that depend on EO data and GIT.

This collection of case studies is a companion to the SERVIR Service Planning Toolkit. It provides concrete examples from SERVIR’s experience, and that of our partners, applying the Service Planning approach.
The crucial role forests play in our world cannot be underestimated. To enhance preservation and monitoring of this natural resource, SERVIR and SilvaCarbon launched a series of global workshops this year in West Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, Hindu-Kush Himalaya, and the Lower Mekong region on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) applications.
USAID and NASA are supporting women scientists around the world to use science and technology to improve resilience and raise the visibility of women in science.
Forest fires have adverse ecological and economic effects and are a major concern in many countries, including Nepal. During the long, dry summers, Nepal experiences many forest fires. In 2016, a record number of fires were reported killing 15 people and consuming an area of 13,000 square kilometers (1.3 hectares) in the span of just two weeks.
Users of Collect Earth Online (CEO) around the world are taking advantage of a CEO feature called the Geo-Dash Degradation Tool that allows them to monitor forest degradation, a major source of carbon emissions.
To sustainably manage forest landscapes, governments and decision makers need accurate and up-to-date information on the extent of the forests they manage and the ways they are changing.
The Climate Resilient Forest Management System in Nepal enhances decision-making at the district level in Nepal by providing more precise and scientific information on climate change vulnerability and degradation of forest ecosystems.
SERVIR-HKH has developed land cover monitoring systems with a modular architecture built on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) computational platform.
